OPTIONS has classrooms for workshops and education, a kitchen, a computer lab, special computer workstations for resume writing and job seeking, an independent living skills library, and a lounge area where youth can hang out.
Workshops are held in job readiness skills, housing, conflict resolution, sexual risks, and substance abuse, among many other topics.
Many of the positive youth development activities at OPTIONS are co-led by a team of youth peer leaders who are compensated to work 10 hours a week. The youth peer leaders are an integral part of evaluating and designing services provided by the center. The peers receive ongoing leadership training and mentoring while in the role of peer educator.
The center has a fully equipped kitchen for cooking classes. Here young people learn to plan and prepare easy nutritious meals. They also learn about food storage, planning, budgeting and shopping wisely for needed ingredients. And of course they can enjoy their success by sitting down and eating the prepared meals with their peers.
