CV works with families with mentally ill children with the goal of keeping the children in the home. Thirty years ago, the preferred method of caring for mentally ill children was long-term hospitalization. Today, we know that these children can do very well at home if they have the support they need. CV staff provide parent-skills training, respite services, and other support to prevent the need for psychiatric hospitalization for families in both New York City and Westchester County. The program operates under the Medicaid Waiver Program, which funds in-home services in lieu of hospitalization.
CV also provides support to Westchester families who have children in the foster care system who are placed in agencies out of New York State. Staff help families work through the challenges of parenting a troubled child and, when it is time for the youth to return home, help make that critical transition work. |
