Supported Housing

The goal of CV’s Supported Housing Program is to transform homeless youth into independent adults who are not dependent on social services. The program gives youth an apartment and support to develop the resources and skills to survive on their own. Each apartment houses two young men or women with a counselor assigned who helps them with budgeting, shopping and other independent living skills. Youth may stay for a limited amount of time and must have a concrete plan for moving out on their own. Youth come to the program voluntarily or are referred through the foster care system.

As part of the supported housing program, CV also has a small number of apartments for pregnant or parenting teens. CV provides 24-hour supervision and a range of supports for both teen and babies. Most supported housing programs require youth to move out of the apartment at the end of the allotted time so they can make room for another youngster. This means the young person has to find an apartment, move their belongings, set up utilities and deal with navigating a new location. The Parent Child Program is unique in that we allow a youth who is stable and working to take over the apartment lease after a year. We provide a housing subsidy for up to one additional year to help them with the rent.
