Transitional Residence for Alien Children (TRAC)

The TRAC Program keeps immigrant children safe while they are awaiting a decision on whether they will be able to stay in the U.S. or be returned to their home country.

In December 2004, Children's Village was approved by the U. S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to operate the first transitional residence for alien children in New York State. The program serves children who have come to the United States illegally without an adult guardian and cares for them until they are either released from custody by ORR or returned to their home country by the State Department. TRAC provides comprehensive services in a safe, family-oriented environment in the culturally rich neighborhood of Queens, NY while the courts decide if they are to remain in the U.S. or be sent back to their home country. In its first year of operation, CV's TRAC Program achieved the second highest reunification rate of ORR programs nationwide. In 2007, CV was asked to expand this program and now operates a second site at our Dobbs Ferry campus.
