Mentor a Student

If you are a 11th or 12th grade high school student, the School-Based Mentoring Program is right for you.  You will be matched with residents between 1st and 6th grades for the entire school year from September to May.  This program offers our boys opportunities for academic enrichment and social skills development.  Mentor/resident pairs participate in theme-based learning projects geared towards increasing residents’ skills in the areas of reading, writing, critical thinking and public speaking. Projects focus on academic and career goals, culture, art, nature and science.  Your input and participation are crucial to the program’s success.  Program staff facilitates your activities with your mentee and guides you through a curriculum of interest to both you and your youngster.  School Based Mentoring takes place on Tuesdays for the entire school year (October – May) from 4:00 – 5:30.

Volunteer slots for high school students wanting to tutor or mentor are highly competitive. We require an application and a commitment to give at least one and a half hours per week for the entire school year.
